On my quest to find a solution for adult acne I was given the chance to try some skincare from naturally inspired Aussie brand A’kin. I have always loved all things pure and natural and firmly believe that when I do switch to a more natural skincare routine my complexion most definitely thanks me for it so I was excited to put A’kin up for the challenge. First up is the A’kin Sandalwood and Neroli, Pure Facial Cleansing Gel. This cleanser comes in a huge 225ml tube (which lasted me a few months), it has a lightly foaming formulation and contains the skin healing properties on Neroli, which is particularly good for treating skin conditions such as acne – something I learnt once when I was on holiday in Tunisia. Perhaps it’s the Sandalwood but I wasn’t too keen on the scent – this definitely didn’t put me off but it is quite a strong fragrance and I do prefer my cleansers to be either more sweet smelling or neutral. On application the cleansing gel does slip and slide, something I’m quite particular about as I feel that it doesn’t penetrate the skin effectively so I would recommend using a muslin cloth to give it a little helping hand by encouraging a deeper cleanse. Overall, I didn’t notice any difference to my skin whilst using the cleansing gel, however it didn’t irritate or cause any tightness which is a good sign at is did remove every last bit of my makeup. Score: 3/5
The A’kin Orange Blossom and Chamomile Toner on the other hand is DIVINE! It smells beautiful and is wonderfully cooling and refreshing. Exactly what a toner should be unlike some I have tried that have stung like hell, made my eyes water or given me a nasty breakout. Score 5/5
To exfoliate or not to exfoliate? Well some believe that exfoliating is extremely important as this encourages cell renewal and removes dead skin cells that can block pores, whilst others are not so convinced and are adamant that by simply using a muslin cloth is enough. Well I am with team exfoliate and make sure I do twice a week at the most. So here is another addition to the A’kin family with the A’kin Jojo & Corn, Gentle Exfoliating facial scrub. The scent is very similar to that of the Sandalwood and Neroli cleansing gel as is the foaming consistency. The exfoliating beads are made from Jojo and Corn and are small but I do prefer an exfoliator to have micro-tiny grains as I feel this is much more gentle and you don’t risk any unwanted scratches from larger particles. My skin does feel smooth after use but perhaps this is best to us on clear skin and not for sufferers of acne. Score 3/5
Last but not least is the A’kin White Tea & Aloe, Vital Hydration Gel Creme, a lovely and light, matifying lotion that instantly hydrates the skin – just like splashing your face with water. Score 4.5/5
Ultimately I did enjoy reviewing the A’kin range of skincare although I didn’t see a real difference in my skin, it did feel clean and fresh and my skin also didn’t get any worse which is always a relief when I try something new.
The quest continues…
